If there’s one thing I’ve ever learned about being a photographer, it is to expect the unexpected and BE PREPARED! Â I had a fun grad session on Monday with a student at East Carolina University, and one of her “must-haves” was pictures at the Cupola. Â The Cupola is one of the icons and focal points of the ECU campus, and it sits right in the center of central campus. Â I got to campus a little early (as always) to get in the zone, and parked the car near here because I knew we’d end up in this area.
To my surprise, this is the sight I see:
The Cupola is under construction! Â Well, not itself, but the area around it. Â Oh no! Â Upon further inspection, I found that the university is building little retaining walls around it, in between all of the brick paths that lead up to the Cupola. Â I was relieved that it wasn’t completely roped off, but this definitely created a bit of a challenge for me – not to get the yellow caution tape, construction materials, etc in the pictures I was going to take for this sweet girl. Â Luckily, I didn’t have much of a problem with it and I ran with it.
The exciting part is – I’m looking forward to seeing how this update turns out! Â It will certainly change the way we see/use that area.. and I can’t wait to use those walls in my future shoots on campus!
So the lesson goes along with many situations.. always be prepared, because you never know when a wrench might be thrown in to kink your plans!
