Sometimes, I am amazed at how small the world is.  How people you meet at different stages of life are connected and how things and people just come full circle.  This totally happened when I met with Bill & Monica for their engagement session in Greenville, NC!

It’s a Small World…

I know Monica through a sorority I was a part of while a student at ECU.  I learned that Bill and I worked together under different divisions of Campus Living at ECU.  Bill was roommates with Cody, who is engaged to marry Darcie later this year, who I went to high school with in Raleigh! WOW! Did you catch that? What a crazy start to our session to learn how everyone is connected. I love learning about how my ABP couples are connected, but that one was completely unexpected! (Bill & Monica didn’t even realize the connection when they reached out to me in January!)  What a fun surprise! Anyways, back to this amazing couple I met with a few weeks ago –

Bill & Monica are Engaged!

I am so so SO excited to be blessed with the opportunity to photograph Bill & Monica this year.  She glows when she looks at Bill.  They are so in tune and so in love.  I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in Sunset Beach later this year! Here are some of my favorites from their engagement session on campus at East Carolina University a few weeks ago.Bill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEI love that Bill & Monica brought their bible to incorporate into their session!  We found their favorite passage, 1 Corinthians 13:8 – “Love Never Fails”Bill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGEBill & Monica - Amanda Brendle Photography - Greenville, NC PhotographerPINIMAGE

I met Heather earlier this year as she was planning her wedding.  We met at a local Starbucks to chat about what she was looking for in a photographer, and we immediately hit it off!  She is such a sweet, kind, gentle person.  She was cool and collected and so easy-going about the whole wedding planning process.  I wish I could say the same for myself when I was in her shoes – I feel like I was so worried about things falling into place!

So here’s my topic for today: Why Engagement Sessions are Important!

Heather and her fiancée Max booked me as their wedding photographer, and at the time they didn’t think they wanted to have an engagement session.  However, a few weeks before their wedding, they thought about it some more and decided they did want to have a session before the wedding after all!  I had availability and it was perfect!  Up until then, I had not met Max, and weddings always tend to go smoother when we’ve had a “practice run” / “meet & greet” with my camera in advance, during the engagement session.  This gives couples a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, and with enough time planned before the wedding, a great opportunity to see what you do/don’t like from your pictures (expressions, poses, hair/make-up, etc.) prior to the Big Day.  While we didn’t have much time between the session and the wedding, it was a great opportunity for them to get comfortable with me and for me to see how they interact with each other.  I learned their smiles, their laughs, when they were at ease and even when they were not as comfortable.  I also was able to learn more about their love story and how strongly they care for one another.

When you have a strict timeline for your wedding and don’t have much time for pictures together (whether intentional or unexpected), having an engagement session is critical!  I knew that we had a limited amount of time at the wedding for family, bridal party, and Bride & Groom pictures, however I was about to figure out in advance what worked for them since we had an engagement session in advance!  This turned out to be a blessing, because I was able to do their pictures quickly – and not a moment too soon!  It started raining on us as we were wrapping up their pictures after the ceremony!!  What started as a beautiful, sunny day eventually turned into a soggy, rainy evening.  We were very fortunate with circumstances and got everything we needed and more.

I feel so strongly about this, and that is why my wedding packages come with a complimentary engagement session!  Rather than viewing this as just a regular portrait session,  my main goal for this time together is to “get to know you” – this is for both myself and you as a sweet couple in love.  Treat it as a practice run for your wedding and a fun get-away from the stresses of planning a wedding, and get some great pictures to use in your wedding decor as a bonus.  Heather and Max ordered some beautiful prints with me to display at their wedding and they were a smash!

So without further ado, here are some highlights from Heather & Max’s engagement session!  I had so much fun and laughed a lot with these lovebirds, and I could be more thankful for our paths to have crossed.  Thank you for putting your trust in me to capture some of the most exciting moments of your new life together.  Look out for an upcoming post with highlights from their wedding!

Darcie & Cody – Raleigh Engagement Session: J.C. Raulston Arboretum
Photography by: Amanda Brendle Photography – Raleigh Wedding Photographer

Darcie and I went to school together and always had friends in common.  When she was the maid of honor at another classmate’s wedding last year, it had been years since we’d seen each other, but she was just as I remembered her – so sweet, full of life and energy, and happier than ever.  You see, her boyfriend was the DJ at the reception, and it was obvious that they were head-over-heels, puppy dog, PB&J, IN LOVE with each other!  They talked about how they met, how similarly-minded and passionate they were of one another, and that they would get married someday.  They had plans.

I was over the moon to see their engagement post pop up on my Facebook newsfeed.  It had finally happened!!  Cody & Darcie are complete lovebirds if I have ever met any, and their love, laughter, and smiles are infectious.  I love being around happy people, and they are some of the best people ever!

There is a whole other part to this engagement session that I can’t share, because they’re going to use some of those pictures for their “Save the Date” announcement.  I. CANNOT. WAIT!  One of my all-time favorite portions of a shoot ever.  They are so stinkin’ adorable.  🙂  That will be saved for a future post after they’ve shared with their friends!!

Until then – Enjoy these images from their session!   I can’t wait for their wedding next June – It’s going to be a blast!

Okay, you may be a little curious about what the heck this next picture is… You see, Darcie & Cody love Disney.  Do you see what I see?  This is also a clue to the next set of pictures I’ll share of these cutie-pies…!  😉

Another session from my “Senior Minis” at East Carolina University this spring is Christina!  She has been a member of the ECU Dance Team for the past 4 years, which spends a lot of time in the fall with the ECU Marching Pirates (marching band) performing at all of the football games.  I have had the opportunity to take pictures of her for all these years as a staff member of the athletic bands, and was just tickled when she asked me to take her senior pictures!  She is beautiful inside and out, and it has been so fun to know her… it doesn’t feel like 4 years has flown by so quickly!

Christina has that personality where I’m sure she’s all-out with her friends, but she seemed so quiet for a while when she was with the dance team… aaand then that changed!  She’s quiet, seemingly shy, and then -BAM!-  She starts photobombing everyone!!  That may be another post for another day, but this girl is completely hilarious and I will miss her and her shenanigans next fall!  Thanks, Christina, for lots of laughs over the years, and CONGRATULATIONS on graduating!

I have had the pleasure of knowing and having the opportunity of photographing Megan over the last 4 years.  She was in the ECU Marching Pirates Colorguard, where I met her as a freshman in front of my camera – and she then became a brother of the band service fraternity that I am a member of as well.  She is such a fascinating gal and seriously talented!  She also was a huge help to me several months ago when she modeled some apparel for one of my product photography clients, and she completely rocked it.  She has such a keen sense of fashion and style, and how could she not? – She’s an ART major!  Such a fun, happy, optimistic girl with so many exciting adventures waiting for her.

Thank you, Megan, for allowing me to “send you off” in the best way I know how!  I can’t wait to see you again soon, and with that new sassy haircut you got since we took these pictures together!  Have the best summer ever, and enjoy being back home in Charlotte!
